HVACR Career Connect was created to promote the exceptional quality-of-life benefits of a career in HVAC and Refrigeration service, and also to provide a clear path for getting started in the profession. In doing so, we serve as a resource for employers in the New York City metro area to find and hire smart and capable new technicians.
Why we founded HVACR Career Connect
There’s a growing shortage of HVAC and Refrigeration technicians.
The US Bureau of Labor and Statistics estimates that there is currently a shortage of 70,000 jobs in HVAC and Refrigeration, and the shortage will grow to 115,000 over the next few years.
The shortage has happened primarily because a large portion of the current workforce is retiring. Also, schools and parents are steering every student toward college, and high school technical programs that used to promote careers in the trades have all but dried up. That, plus the fact that the business is growing (and has done so even in economic downturns) has resulted in a critical shortage of talent in the industry.
Through our job listings and career resources, we intend to attract smart young people to a profession with a bright future.
Job seekers are unaware of the benefits of a career in HVAC or Refrigeration.
People who don’t know better tend to think of careers in the trades as jobs for people who are not smart enough to go to college. This misconception could not be further from the truth, especially for jobs in HVAC and Refrigeration. It’s highly technical and challenging work that requires intelligence and problem-solving ability.
Service technicians make a great living (considerably more than many people who go to college) without having to take on any student loan debt. Plus, they can join the union and enjoy much better benefits than most Americans have, including excellent healthcare and a pension.
We intend to correct the misconceptions many people have about jobs in HVAC and Refrigeration, by promoting the facts about working in this industry.
There’s an unclear path to join the profession.
Unlike other fields, there are several paths to joining the HVAC and Refrigeration industry. Some start with engineering college or technical school, while others start by getting hired as an apprentice and entering an employer or union training program. People who are interested don’t know how to go about getting trained and qualified.
Through the HVACR Career Connect website, we provide a clear and easy path for job seekers to get prepared and to connect with employers in the New York City area that are currently hiring.
Our mission: introduce smart, ambitious people to an amazing career opportunity
We intend to promote HVAC and Refrigeration as an inclusive, attractive, high-skill career opportunity and connect qualified job seekers with employers who need their skills and talents, by:
